I believe this message of love, hope, and peace is universal and is shared by all.

Okay so i've had a grip of moths and caterpillars coming around the last few weeks. More so than usual. Now once upon a time I read they were a sign of the Goddess watching over you. I wish I could remember where I read it but that was many many sleeps ago... My daughter says they are spirits sent to watch over us (keep in mind she is 3). Maybe she knows something I don't. Probably isn't the first time and most certainly won't be the last. I really love how kids can see things we've long forgotten about or made not to believe in as a result of mainstream society. Some of us never forget though.:) Anywhooo here's a post on moths and their meaning / symbolism.

MOTH POWER ANIMAL, SYMBOL OF TRANSFORMATION

Moth's gifts include the power of the whirlwind, ease of movement in darkness/shadow, transformation/metamorphosis, ability to confuse enemies, ability to find light in darkness, hearing spoken and unspoken messages.

Moths reside in all but polar regions. Their bodies, legs and wings are covered with numerous touch hairs that come off if the moth is touched - they are highly sensitive to touch. They can feel, smell, taste and tell the temperature with their feathery antennae, with the tiny pegs on them acting as receptors. The moth views everything clearly. Moth people usually have strong psychic and healing abilities and must watch out not to pick up others problems and carry them around in their energy fields, or confusion or irritability may occur.

Metamorphosis is part of moths magic - the egg stage is symbolic of the birth of an idea, the larvae stage is the foundation, the chrysalis stage is symbolic of the manifestation, and the growing of wings symbolises taking flight and exploring uncharted territory.

An interesting trait of the moth is hiow they use their wings. A resting moth either wraps its wings around itself, holds them extended to the side or folds the wings up. This implies a basic nurturing property and moth people may find themselves in the role of care giver.

With their acute hearing - their hearing organs are located on their legs, giving them the ability to sense vibrations around them - the moth is able to detect ultra sound. Pay attention to what is being spoken and also the unspoken, underlying messages in what is heard. Observe the body language of those around you and those you come in contact with if this is yoru power animal. Also pay attention to your sensitivity to others, the lacking side of it or the over side of it. Perhaps you are in a situation that needs to be rethought. Are you being honest to yourself and others?

The moth is an optimist and opportunist with countless transformative properties. From them we learn how to expand and perfect our inherent psiychic abilities, and how to let go of negative energies and unwelcome influences, helping us move into our personl power and happiness.

Pollys Chapel Paranormal Investigation

There is a small chapel in Bandera County just outside of San Antonio called Polly's Chapel. Jose Policarpo Rodriguez built the chapel in 1882 on the banks of Privilege Creek. Rodriguez, who was known as "Polly" was born in Mexico and came to Texas as a child. He went on to become famous as a scout for the U.S. Army, a guide, a hunter and finally a minister which is what led him to build the church. Polly is buried in an old graveyard just a short distance from the chapel.

A couple of members of our team had done a preliminary investigation of Polly's Chapel upon hearing of some possible paranormal activity. We decided that a full investigation would be worthwhile based on some stories about possible hauntings taking place there.

The investigation at Polly's Chapel took place on a cold damp night. Eddie, Josh, Cari and Jay along with all of our electronic equipment piled into our 4X4 for a 45 minute drive to Bandera outside San Antonio.

We arrived at the Chapel around 10:45pm, exited the truck and immediately felt the chill of the country air. It was noticeably colder away from the city and the damp cold air, pierced right though our jackets.

Ignoring the cold, the team quickly gathered all their equipment and entered the chapel to set up our investigation.

Our preliminary investigation at Polly's Chapel revealed a great deal of activity taking place. In fact, the amount of paranormal activity we encountered made it almost impossible to film. We were really hoping that we had the same amount of activity while we had all our equipment with us.

A quick check of the chapel did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. Video cameras and digital recorders were set in place to capture any paranormal activity which may occur while team members worked on EVP sessions.

The lights were then turned off and the IR lights were activated on the video recorders. Josh, who is the ADPR Video Tech, proceeded to film the EVP session which was being held by Cari, Eddie, and Jay.

While filming the EVP session, a strange red glow was seen on the far side of the chapel window. It appeared to be pretty faint and slowly moved across the window, then on to the wall. At first, seeing this made investigators think it was just the IR from the video camera Josh was using, but after seeing it several different times, we noticed that Josh did not have the camera facing the window and the IR was not reflecting from the IR source on the video camera.

Josh was asked to repeat his actions several different times and the team was unable to get any results. Josh even faced the camera towards the window in order to see if the glow was the same. It was obvious at that point that the red glow was not that of the IR light. We were unable to debunk the small red glow, so we continued with the EVP session and did not see the red glow again.

Next, the team packed up the equipment and proceeded to the Cemetery where Polly himself is buried. Being outside really made for a cold investigation. It was pretty quiet, except for some dogs barking in the distance. The area felt really calm and Jay even stated that he was more comfortable in the Cemetery than in the Chapel.

We worked on EVPs at the location and filmed the area with IR Video Cameras. After staying in the cold until we could no longer feel our fingers or hands, we decided to call it a night and head back home.

Over the following week, team members analyzed all the recordings, but did not find anything unusual. Not a single EVP was found. We were all disappointed with the results of the EVPs that were taken. Next we turned to Josh, who had analyzed the video. Nothing.....the video did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. Cari, who was checking her recordings and her photos, also did not come up with anything. It was finally down to Jay. I received an email from him and BINGO....we had something on film.

Jay sent me a photo he took which contained what appears to be a shadowy figure. The photo clearly shows a dark shadow next to the podium that we could not explain. Although we can not say for sure where we were all standing at the time the photo was taken, none of us were in the photo itself and could not have been casting a shadow in that area.

Although we concluded that there was no hard evidence of a haunting occurring here, our first video may still indicate otherwise. Please take a lo0k and let us know what you think.Is Polly's Chapel worth another visit?

Book: Awakening To The Spirit World The Shamanic Path Of Direct Revelation by Sandra Ingerman

This book's two authors are popular lecturers, writers, and practitioners of contemporary shamanism. Sandra Ingerman's previous books include Soul Retrieval, Welcome Home, A Fall to Grace, and Shamanic Journeying. Those by Hank Wesselman include The Journey to the Sacred Garden and the trilogy Spiritwalker, Medicinemaker, and Visionseeker. Both authors see shamanism not as a religion but as a method free of any religious overlay or dogma, as "the path of immediate and direct personal contact with Spirit, deeply meditative, and not subject to definition, censorship, or judgment by others." They stress that the shamanic approach to life is natural and basic to everyone and that human beings everywhere share the same basic traits, abilities, and skills with shamans, who are "visionaries who simply develop these skills to a masterful degree through their initiations and subsequent training."

The book begins by explaining shamanism, the shamanic journey, and the importance of reconnecting with nature. It then covers all aspects of shamanism, including visionary work with weather and environmental changes, the power of ritual and ceremony, dreams, creative art, sound and light, death and dying (both actual and metaphorical), and working with transformational communities. In addition to material from Ingerman and Wasselman, each chapter includes extended commentary by Tom Cowan, Carol Proudfoot-Edgar, Jose Luis Stevens, and Alberto Villoldo.

One objective of the shamanic approach stressed by these authors is for the individual to become liberated and self-realized, able to gain mastery over life. Three necessary tools are gratitude, or the ability to see through the false ego to the heart; seeing, or cutting through falsity to the true nature of Spirit; and blessing, or recognizing the Spirit flowing through one. Shamans are viewed as hollow bones or empty reeds, people who learn "to move ... ego out of the way so that the power of the universe may work through and within them." Each chapter contains step-by-step exercises, many to be undertaken while using the drumming CD included with the book.

One of the optimistic understandings of the shaman is that "since everyone is collectively dreaming, each person can, with awareness and an act of will, change the dream." To this end the authors say that there are spiritual forces surrounding us in many forms, and they hear our call for help. The two authors and the other contributors share the view that "a new dream is possible but requires enough dreamers to wake up from their collective nightmare and choose to transform the dream." The book is highly recommended, especially to newcomers, for its breadth of coverage of Modern Shamanism and the clarity of its practical usefulness.

Very well written, easy to read book with a lot of thought and insight and research put into it. I was delighted when I saw it - it is a gorgeous book with a really gorgeous cover - I LOVE that art - but I was pleasantly suprised that it came with Shamanic tracts on a CD. I had not realized the book came with a cd! I had no problem finishing this book. I read it in sections, and looked forward to my time alone with it. What I liked might be hard to put into words....as one that's been on a Shamanic pagan path for many years, this book coincided very well with my beliefs and the ritual elements that it discussed, they are already my own, and I will vouch for their effectiveness. But it wasn't THAT... There's tidbits in this book, especially some of the words from the shamans interviewed for this book, that sort of flipped some switches I didn't know I had. I gathered some very AHA! insights from this book, which are well worth the cost in time and effort put into reading it. I felt PUSHED along on my current path, perhaps saving me unknown amounts of time and meditation on certain things. It's a bit surreal, it is by it's nature hard to express.

The CD tracks are also very effective - the author(s) have studied beats from many cultures, many Shamans, and have found that they have a lot in common, and that is what the trance drumming is based on.

I do think that Wiccans and Neopagans would enjoy this book as well. Some of the ritual elements certainly overlap. This book was recently featured on a Coast to Coast radio show. If you read it, and like it, you might catch that on the web or something. One of the authors talked more about his personal journey and the effort of research that went into this. This book was well researched by a well educated scientist.

And, as I said, Eliade goes far beyond the traditional forms of Shamanism in Siberia and Central Asia. Even the Shamanic traditions of the ancient Indo-Euorpeans, such as the Greek myth of Orpheus, Persian views of the after world and the Germanic God Odin, are given treatment. This book is very lengthy, well written, extensivily bibliographed and filled with detailed accounts and accurate information on virtually all facets of Shamanism. I cannot recommend this book enough. Even after all these years, "Shamanism" remains perhaps the definitive book on Shamanic beliefs and thought. To truely understand Shamanism and its role in Siberia/Central Asia, you must read this book.

Ritual To Find Your Spirit Guide

Items Needed:

Altar Candle, Day Candle (Monday-white, Tuesday-red, Wednesday-purple, Thursday-blue, Friday-green, Saturday-black, Sunday-yellow) , Offertory Candles - 3 Violet Candles, 3 White Candles

Tools

Athame to inscribe candles
Crystal ball or clear glass of water

Incense

anise, cardamom, and coriander.

Oil

jasmine, lemon, rose and sandalwood

Timing

Best done during the Mercury hour of the day, although any hour should work. Any moon phase is appropriate.

Preparation

Breathe deeply and build a ball of protective light around you. While soaking in your ritual bath, meditate on the whole ritual: the steps you will take and what you wish to say to your Spirit Guide when you make contact.

Ritual

Enter the circle in the Hour of Mercury. Light the incense. With the oil, dress the Altar Candle and the Day candle while concentrating on the purpose of the ritual. Light your Altar Candle and Day Candle and state your intent:

I am here to make contact with my Spirit Guide, and to acknowledge him or her.

With your Athame, inscribe Violet Candle #1 with the word "Spirit." Dress it with oil. Light the Violet Candle #1, direct your energies into it and say:

Here do I light the first Lamp of Spirit. May its light reach out across the barriers from this world to the next. May it make contact with that World of Spirit into which we will eventually enter.

Take your censer or incense wand and swing it around, sensing the whole area around the altar while rhythmically repeating the word "Merge" and building up energy to focus. Replace the censer and pick up Violet Candle #2.

Inscribe it with the word "Spirit" and dress it with oil. Put it back on the altar, light it and say:

Here do I light the second Lamp of Spirit. May its light also reach out across the barriers from this world to the next? May it make contact with that World of Spirit and help spread the light, illuminating the passageway between our worlds.

Again take the censer or incense wand and sense the entire area around while chanting the word "Merge." Build up your energy to focus. Take Violet Candle #3, inscribe it with the word "Spirit," dress it with oil, charge with your energy, light it and say:

Here do I light the third Lamp of Spirit. May the light from these three lamps blend and grow, dispelling all darkness and lighting the way that my Spirit Guide may come to me and speak with me here today.

Inscribe the three white candles with the word "Truth" and anoint each candle with oil. Light the three candles in the order of 1, 2, 3, and say:

Here do I build Truth.

As these candles burn throughout this ritual, Their Power generating nothing but truth in all that transpires between this world and the next. Through these candles there is truth in all Communications that come to me. Again cense the altar area while chanting "Merge." Replace the censer and continue chanting. Sit comfortably while chanting, and gaze into the crystal ball, or the clear glass of water. Continue chanting until you feel it is right to let the chant taper off. Continue to quietly look into the crystal ball or glass,
not trying to picture anything. Keep your mind blank, so whatever comes will appear and will come in it's own free will. Gaze into the center of the crystal, there is no need to try not to blink. Look into the crystal and blink naturally. Try not to notice anything in your peripheral vision, just the center of the crystal. Eventually a face or figure will appear. This may take a long time, or it may appear almost immediately. If it doesn't come at all within approximately 20 minutes, abandon this attempt, extinguish the
candles in the order in which they were lit, leave the altar set up, and try this ritual again in three days.

You should have results within a month at most. When a figure does appear, ask if he/she is your Spirit Guide. You will hear an answer, you may not hear it out loud, or even see the figures lips move, but you will be aware of the answer. This is how most conversations will proceed. You will ask your questions mentally (or out loud) and the answer will be clear inside your mind. Ask if you have more than one Spirit Guide. If yes, ask them to appear also. You may ask anything you wish to know, but it is better to establish a
connection first where your Spirit Guide may appear to you at any time, or at specific times, so that you can converse with any other spirits through him/her. When you have finished speaking with your guide, thank him/her, then sit for a moment with your eyes closed, meditating on all that you have learned. Extinguish the candles in reverse order to clear the circle.

Power Animal Lion

LION's Medicine includes patience, family importance, courage.

Lion is a totem of Feminine power and strength. The male Lion sits and boats his Beautiful mane while the Lioness is out hunting, working and feeding the pride.

The male Lion is the protector of the pride, but he does not fight if he can avoid it. He would sooner bask on a rock as get into a brawl. Lion always tries a passive, calm approach before resorting to violence to protect what he loves. Lion knows that one must not underestimate the power of peace, and suggests that we release all out stress and frustration before making any rash decisions.

Lion teaches many lessons. He reminds us to examine our behavior to find flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths. He teaches us to keep our temper under control. He also teaches us the power of silent, unseen observation, just like Fox. And, most importantly, he teaches us the importance of family and of team work.
